Paintings by Mike
I think of my paintings as a record of a performance. They're the relics left over after an action has taken place. I want my paintings to achieve a joyful and exuberant aesthetic quality, but I also want them to be a kind of puzzle as to how they were made. The special thing about painting is that its always connected to human action in some way and I like the idea of misdirecting the viewer. With my paintings I want to create beauty and colour, but I also want to sow confusion and mischief.
